If you are not here to do one of the Great Walks there is plenty more to keep you busy. Go fishing on Lake Te Anau or Lake Manapouri and visit Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound by air or water. There are also plenty of short walks within easy reach - just ask Alistar and Rosie for some advice!
There is no shortage of activities for the adventurous traveller to indulge in including boat cruises, kayaking, fishing and diving to tramping, caving, jet boating, hunting or mountain biking, to name a few.
The Great Walks are considered to be some of New Zealand's greatest adventures. And amazingly there are three Great Walks in Fiordland National Park, all easily accessible from Te Anau. Enjoy the Milford, Kepler or Routeburn Tracks
While famous for the Great Walks there are plenty of other tramps and day hikes available within Fiordland National Park.

So, whether it's a coffee fix or a quick bite, a fine dining experience or fish and chips on the lakefront, Te Anau and Manapouri have plenty of options for you to choose from.
Our recommendations including La Toscana, Bailez, Redcliff and The Moose. The Ranch is a good steakhouse and The Fat Duck has award winning lamb and beef meals.
Fiordland weather is highly changeable so be prepared for all conditions.
Summer in Fiordland (December to Feburary) offers the warmest days (between 15 - 25°C). Winter temperatures (between May and November) can be between 1 - 9°C, however cold weather can occur at any time of year.
Thanks to the amount of rain here the Fiordland area has amazing waterfalls and forest for you to enjoy. An average of about 1.3 metres of rain falls in Te Anau per year, over an average of about 200 rain-days per year. Don’t forget your rain jacket!
